Just next door to Bouchon Bistro, Chef Thomas Keller opened the doors of his first Bouchon Bakery. Located in Yountville, California, Bouchon Bakery was first conceived as a way to provide these restaurants with one-of-a-kind breads. Quickly, the bakery blossomed into an important establishment in its own right. In the style of classic French boulangeries, the bakery features a wide selection of artisanal breads and classic desserts inspired by Chef Keller’s memories of life in France, as well as his own childhood in the United States.
Pastry chef Nicholas Bonamico makes an array of sweet delights including classic Viennoiserie, such as croissants and pain au chocolat, breakfast items like muffins and coffee cakes as well as an ever-changing selection of tarts, cookies and other treats (we left with enough macarons to feed a small army). The bakery also offers a full range of espresso drinks and coffee, custom-blended by Chef Keller’s longtime partner Equator Coffee Roasters. You can also enjoy a full meal with savory items like sandwiches, soup, salads and quiche. Be warned that this gem is no secret, so you can expect a line out the door starting before they even open (but it's worth it!)
R+D KITCHEN
R+D Kitchen is a local favorite in the heart of Napa Valley and offers crisp and flavorful dishes in a quintessential indoor-outdoor space. We sat in adirondack chairs by fire pits outside for happy hour before moving indoors for dinner, which makes sense because R+D is inspired by California's indoor/outdoor culture with spaces that are light filled and intimate in feel. The Thai Tuna Roll was arguably the best sushi I've ever eaten, and I still dream about their Cashew Kale Salad.
OXBOW PUBLIC MARKET
Located in the vibrant Oxbow District in downtown Napa, Oxbow Public Market is the community gathering place for great food and wine. It's where both locals and visitors connect and there's always something happening -- live music, cooking demos, wine and beer tastings, or the farmers market. It's where you can find local, artisanal ingredients -- the same ingredients the best Napa Valley restaurants use -- from meat to fish, cheese, charcuterie, organic produce, fresh baked bread, olive oil and more. We stopped in on our way out of town for our caffeine fix at Ritual Coffee and breakfast at Model Bakery (both were fantastic!)
